Technical selection for professionals

How to choose a solar inverter for a professional project

Choosing a solar inverter takes more than comparing kW. Check single-phase or three-phase connection, grid voltage, AC power, DC/AC ratio, each MPPT range and current, string design, grid code and communications. For hybrid models, also verify the battery, BMS, firmware, metering and backup.

What is the difference between a hybrid and a grid inverter?

A hybrid manages a compatible battery and, depending on the architecture, backup. A grid inverter converts PV generation for consumption or export. Exact functions depend on the model and complete system.

How is inverter power selected?

Use PV array power and orientation, connection, grid limits, load profile, DC/AC ratio and temperature conditions. Do not select it only from total module nameplate power.

Can any current model replace an old inverter?

No. Check Voc, Isc, string current and count, MPPTs, AC connection, protection, communications, any transformer and grid requirements. Revamping requires a specific assessment.

Can any battery connect to a hybrid inverter?

No. DC compatibility requires documented matching of models, voltage, BMS and firmware. An AC-coupled battery may coexist electrically, but this does not mean direct DC-port compatibility or universal functional integration.
