How to choose a solar panel for a professional project

Choosing a solar panel takes more than comparing watts. Review dimensions and weight, technology and construction, Vmpp, Voc, Impp, Isc, temperature coefficients, mechanical loads, warranty and documentation. The final design must check strings, inverter limits, mounting, wind, snow, handling and actual site conditions.

Is the highest-wattage panel always the best option?

No. The decision also depends on dimensions, current, voltage, available area, mounting, inverter, loads, handling, documentation and total system cost.

How is the number of modules per string determined?

Check Voc and Vmpp with temperature coefficients and site extremes against the inverter’s maximum voltage, start voltage and MPPT window.

Can different modules be mixed in the same string?

It must not be assumed. Differences in current, voltage, orientation, technology or degradation may limit the whole string. The configuration needs a specific electrical assessment.

When does a bifacial module make sense?

When the design allows useful rear-side irradiance. Assess albedo, height, spacing, shading and mounting. The module data sheet alone does not guarantee a specific gain.

What must be validated for the mounting system?

Module dimensions and weight, clamping zones, wind and snow loads, roof type, fixings, layout and corrosion conditions according to documentation and project calculations.

What information does PnP need to guide selection?

Application, area and roof, location, target power, inverter, modules per string, mounting, dimension or weight limits, and warranty, logistics and lead-time requirements.
