Technical selection for professionals

How to choose a solar battery for a professional project

Choosing a solar battery takes more than comparing kWh. Check whether the project is new or a retrofit, AC or DC coupling, voltage and BMS, charge and discharge power, phases, backup, communications, scalability and warranty. Plug & Play Energy checks each configuration against real project data and current documentation.

TCC-CAN Ultra 175
The TCC-CAN control module for the eBick Ultra 175 modular battery from Cegasa.
The BMS, through CAN communication, allows you to send the most relevant battery data such as SOC, temperature, alarms, current and voltage during charging and discharging, among others. In addition, with the eViewer App, through a Bluetooth connection, it allows you to view the module parameters such as battery SOC, cycles and bus voltage, among others.

Is an AC or DC battery better?

It depends on the project. AC coupling often simplifies retrofits and separates ecosystems; DC can provide direct integration in new or hybrid systems. Exact compatibility and losses must be checked using the complete design.

How many kWh of battery does a system need?

Calculate it using hourly consumption and generation, the goal, autonomy, power, depth of discharge and losses. Monthly consumption alone is not enough for correct sizing.

Must the battery use the same brand as the inverter?

Not necessarily. DC requires documented compatibility between inverter, battery and BMS. AC may allow electrical coexistence, but this does not imply functional integration: metering, control, export and backup must be validated.

What distinguishes a C&I BESS from a home battery?

Not just capacity. C&I projects depend on power, load profile, EMS, grid connection, protection, space, operation, maintenance and the economic or operating goal. They require a specific study.
